    4. Progress in Seed Production (Rabi)

    5. Balanced use of Fertilizers The nitrogenous, phosphoric and Potassic Fertilizers are being made available to the farmers. There has been low off take of DAP&MOP during last Kharief. Reasons will be communicated to MOC& F, GOI. Difficulties are being faced from some suppliers. Also on account of freight reimbursement and rate of freight in case of decontrolled fertilizer.

    10. Integrated Nutrient Management Vermi-compost units Organic manure and Bio-fertilizer Chemical Fertilizers. There is however need to popularize Vermi-Compost units and use of organic manure/bio-fertilizer in a big way in the state of J&K keeping in view the Ecology of the state and the urgent need to preserve it. Support of MOA&C is solicited in a more substantial manner.

    11. Steps taken to improve productivity Timely arrangement and distribution of quality inputs. Adoption of recommended package of practices through mass contact awareness camps. Involvement of Print and Electronic Media, Brochures and pamphlets for mass awareness.

    12. Timely Plant Protection measures employing IPM approach. Promoting Protected cultivation and cultivation of Hybrid varieties of Vegetables and Maize Cultivation of Off-Season Vegetables for export to markets outside the State. Encouraging use of Organic Manure for improvement of soil health. Steps taken to improve productivity Contd….

    13. Progress on APMC amendments The proposed amendments of 2005 aim to create provisions for the following :- Establishment of Private yards & Markets Contract Farming

Readiness to Implement National Horticulture Mission and ATMA related existing Programmes Technology Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture is already under implementation in the State. ATMA related activities The State is a Non-NATP State The State Level Orientation Workshop was held on 29th July 2005 in Srinagar in collaboration with MANAGE Hyderabad. The Government has constituted the following Committees: State Level Inter Departmental Working Groups (IDWG) ATMA Governing Board (GB) ATMA Management Committee (MC) Block Technology Team (BTT) is being constituted. Farm Advisory Committee (FAC) is being constituted.

    15. The State has identified eight districts for implementation of ATMA. These are: Anantnag, Budgam and Kupwara in Kashmir Division Jammu, Doda and Rajouri in Jammu Division. Leh and Kargil in Ladakh Division Has nominated the SAMETIs in the two State Agricultural Universities at Jammu and Srinagar. Has identified the Autonomous Body for routing of funds. The Master Trainers’ training programme is being conducted from 15th to 22nd of September 2005 in Srinagar.

    16. Officers of Agriculture and Allied departments like Horticulture, Sericulture, Animal & Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries are being trained.Also representatives from the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Zonal Research Stations (ZRSs) Resources persons from MANAGE, Hyderabad. The State experts to complete the preparation of SREP and SEWP tentatively by 15th November 2005

    19. Suggestions for improving Rabi Production Increase in double cropped area Inter-cropping of wheat, Mustard, Pulses shall be taken up on priority basis in dry land areas Promotion of Protected Vegetable Cultivation. Timely arrangement of quality inputs. Transfer of Technology for scientific crop production. Integrated Pest and Nutrient Management. Promoting cultivation of Hybrid varieties wherever possible. Area under Seed villages to be increased to improve Seed Replacement Rate (SRR)
