  3. Agenda • You will need: Library book and reading log. If you forgot it the questions are on the following slide 5. Read Library book for the first fifteen minutes and answer the reading log questions. • Then you will read “Tangerine” Pages 123-151) and answer the questions on slides 5. Turn in on a separate sheet of paper. • As you complete two-column notes (example on the board under the screen)

  4. “Tangerine” Comprehension Questions • What do you think about Antoine’s pulling the ball away (page 127) and the events that followed. • September 26 (pages 129 – 137) Describe something that happened in the Tangerine soccer game that impressed you. September 27 – October 3 (pages 137 - 151) • What kind of inappropriate questions does Paul’s mom ask? • What kind of information do you think the newspaper should print about Tangerine Middle’s soccer team? • Why are Paul and Joey not getting along? • Describe the Golden Dawn tangerine. • Should Paul stay with his science group? Why or why not?

  5. Reading Log Questions: • 1st- Is the genre of your book fiction or non-fiction? Explain. • 2nd- Is your book written in 1st or 3rd person? Explain. • 3rd-Describe the setting. • 4th-Name one of the characters and describe his/her traits. • 5th-Is the conflict so far Internal or External? Explain. • 6th-Write one word that you think someone else might not know. Write the word’s definition and the sentence it is in.

  6. 7th-Name one character you can relate to. Explain why. • 8th-How does the setting play an important role in the story? Explain. • 9th-At this point, who is the main character? Give his/her main character trait and give examples. • 10th-What type of person would enjoy reading this book? Explain. • 11th-Is the conflict of this story continuing or is it beginning to resolve? Explain. • 12th-When does the climax occur in this story? What happened? • 13th-Would you want to read this book again? Explain.

  7. Wednesday EQ: How do lines in the book, quotes, provide clues to what Paul is going to choose? Journal: (Student Page) Paul talks about the first impression he gets when he walks into Tangerine Middle. Recall the first time you walked into this school, and the first time you met your teachers. Reflect on whether or not these first impressions proved to be true. What type of first impression do you make on people. Are first impressions important?

  10. Journal Brainstorm a exhausted list of adjectives that would describe Paul.

  11. QAR Strategy Using the QAR strategy I want you develop two questions that center around Paul’s feelings or thoughts. Example: How do you think Paul will feel when he plays against his old friends at Lake Windsor Middle?
