The First Model Production #’s RS: 64,842 SS: 34,411 Z/28: 1,002 Total: 221,306 The first Camaro was the 1967 Camaro. It was introduced by Chevy as competition for the Ford Mustang. There were different types like convertible, coupe, RS, SS, and the Z/28. The Camaro is classified under a muscle car.
1968 Camaro More was added to the 1968 Camaro due to the success of the 1967. Some things added were side marker lights on the front fenders (government requirement for all 68 vehicles) ,a more pointed front grille, a front spoiler, and divided rear taillights. The front running lights (excluding RS models) were also changed from circular to oval. The big block SS models received chrome hood inserts that imitated velocity stacks. This increased the production numbers by over 10,000.
1969 Camaro The 1969 Camaro carried over most of the 1968’s mechanics except for the looks. Chevy wanted to make it look more sporty so the grille was redesigned with a heavy "V" and deeply inset headlights. Some other changes were new door skins, rear quarter panels, and rear valance panel which gave the car a much lower, wider, more aggressive look.
