Who is a Leader? • Transformational Leaders are born of virtue, embrace virtue • “Virtue is a gift of God”: Socrates • The chief virtue is love - I am my brother’s keeper (1 cor.13) • Leaders have vision of a better world • Leaders invite others to pursue and fulfill their vision Transformational Leadership

Transformational VS Transactional • Transactional • Boss tells you what to do; you do it • Minimal interaction in making decisions • Command determines action; no creative thinking • Transformational • Leader inspired with vision to make meaningful change • Leader invites & empowers others to create new solution • Followers become innovative team, not just workers Transformational Leadership

What does a Leader do? • Leaders inspire a Culture of growth & contribution • Culture is “How we do thing here” - emerging from core beliefs, values, character • Parents, Grandparents create family culture • Teachers create the culture of a classroom. • Pastors ,elders, and leadership team create church culture Transformational Leadership

  5. How do Leaders Create Culture? • Leaders develop their personal interior culture - beliefs, values and character • Leaders authentically model their culture to the Team • Good Leaders are made in the hands of God, in the fire of experience Transformational Leadership

  6. Why is it so important to focus on the interior culture of an Transformational Leader? • Building a strong, enduring interior culture, enables leaders to transform their exterior culture • Parable of the Good Samaritan Transformational Leadership

Session 1 Core Beliefs of Transformational Leaders • Belief 1: The world can be, and should be transformed to a better place – • we are not bound by fate, tradition, or the powers of the world • Belief 2: I have purpose – Genuine fulfillment comes from contributing something meaningful and valuable to our world; • “Give, and it will be given to you” • Belief 3: Empowerment comes from joining together – • Team leadership vitally affects successful contribution • Belief 4: The truth sets us free – seeking, knowing, telling, and applying truth: - builds a foundation of trust within a team, and with customers • - enables us to achieve creative , meaningful contributions Transformational Leadership
