Durer was one of the most influential artist of his time. He used pictures to tell stories. He was one of 18 children born in Germany to a fine Goldsmith and craftsman. He decided early on in his life that he would pursue painting instead of gold making. He dedicated his first painting to his father, maybe out of guilt or shame for not following in his footsteps. He also painted a picture of his mother which is his most expensive painting ever. At 13, he painted a self portrait and became fascinated with his own image.
Here is his self portrait that has become so very famous. So what shall we do with this information now?
Well, you have probably guessed it. You are such a smart class! We will make self portraits today!
Here are the requirements: 1.) You will make a self portrait by using pencil and paper only. 2.) To add detail, we will use some shading techniques. 3.) The sketch will need to be completed by the end of this class period. 4.) The final portrait will be due by the end of next class. 5.) Questions????
