Writing Skills Objectives (MHS ELECTIVES) • The student will be able to use prewriting and revising techniques to produce a polished piece of writing that meets the standards of the discipline. • The student will be able to use writing to make personal connections with course materials, develop critical thinking skills, and enrich the learning process. • The student will be able to write Standard American English. • The student will be able to communicate effectively in response to the demands of a specific audience. • The student will be able to use various forms of writing within the discipline. Nonverbal Communications The Lie Detector • Write down five “Yes or No” Questions about yourself. • Example: Have you ever ate a bug?  • On a separate sheet of paper answer the questions. • Trade your questions with a person that you are not very familiar with; keep your answer sheet. • Ask your classmate the questions that they created for themselves. Write down their response and whether or not you believe them to be lying or truthing!  • Compare your answers. • What are three signs that someone is lying? Write them down on your handout & turn in all papers.

Find a topic that really interest you; like the history of cell phones, phones, facebook, twitter, the computer, etc. As long as it is technology related! • Title slide, subtitle the history of…, picture, name, class,& period • Intro slide with brief introduction of chosen topic • Details on topic from source 1 • Details on topic from source 2 • Details on topic from source 3 • Cite all Sources: 3 web Sources & 3 picture sources (cite your sources on the slide that you use them on!) • Quiz on Topic (5 questions)

(mnr) • Bring in Job Posting from the Internet or Newspaper (mnr) • Go to a local business get a job application, complete it, and turn it in to me. (mjr) • Professional Attire Day • Letter of Recommendation from an adult. Recommending you as student of the month. (+5xtra added to project grade)

What is an electronic portfolio? • An electronic portfolio is a collection of work that someone creates to showcase items that he/she has created. • In this case an electronic portfolio is a collection of five or more assignments that have been created since the beginning of the school year. Students may use typed, photographed, or computerized assignments from other classes. • Otherwise, students will take a snapshot of five different assignments. (Ctrl + print screen) and paste the assignments in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint. • Students must give a description/explanation of the assignment and if it is for a different teacher be sure to list the teacher’s name. Please change the background, Spell check, & Use Creative fonts.
