SIYADLALA MASS PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME2005-2006 REPORT This programme was initiated by the National Department of Sport and Recreation in 2004. The core objective of the programme is to facilitate participation in sport and recreation within disadvantaged communities with a specific focus on supporting Government priority nodes. This programme is intended to “get the Nation playing” and involves partnerships between National & Provincial Government, the Private sector, NGO’s and Communities. The underlying value is to Work together in a spirit of cooperation and partnership for the benefit of disadvantaged communities. It intends to unify diverse communities and cultivate a spirit of volunteerism within communities. It focuses primarily on the youth in an attempt to combat crime and reduce the high levels of health risk including the threats of HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancies
SIYADLALA MASS PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME 2004-2006 Limpopo Siyadlala Mass Participation programme was allocated R1m for the financial year 2004/2005. The programme absorbed 32 coordinators for four Hubs • Senwabarwana (Capricorn Municipality), • Schoonoord (Makhudu-thamaga Municipality), • Metz (Maruleng Municipality) • Bakenberg (Bakenberg Municipality)
SPORTING CODES IN THE FOUR HUBS • Street Soccer • Street Basketball • Street Handball • Aerobics • General Gymnastics • Indigenous games • Big Walk and fun run
HUB LAUNCHES All the hubs were officially launched in their respective districts in March 2004 and attended by various stakeholders and beneficiaries. The Provincial launch was held at Schoonoord Hub in December 2004 where 10 000 Participants took part. All the priority codes were Played.
INDIGENOUS GAMES The four hubs hosted the district Indigenous Games festivals that culminated in the National Indigenous games Festival held in Cape Town in August 2005. Limpopo Province obtained position two. The following activities were played: Morabaraba, Moruba, Khokho, Jukskei, Kgati, Diketo, Dibeke, Intonga
SIYADLALA MASS PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME 2005/2006 In the current financial year the programme Identified additional four new Hubs i.e. Kgapane Hub (Greater Letaba Municipality), Masisi Hub (Mutale Municipality), Ellandskraal Hub (Greater Marble hall Municipality) and Mookgopong Hub (Mookgopong Municipality)
COORDINATORS AND CODES 38 co-ordinators were employed, 9 in each Hub. The following codes are played in the new Hubs: Softball, Volleyball, Rugby, Cricket, Swimming, Soccer, Netball, Indigenous games and Boxing.
BUDGET • So far R 752 000.00 is not yet utilised excluding monthly stipends (commitment register attached). • R 1, 918 000.00 was used for the items indicated on the commitment register. • Total Budget allocated R 2, 670 000.00
PLANS FOR UTILISING THE REMAINING BUDGET A schedule is underway to launch four additional Hubs in four districts

CONCLUSION In promoting consistent mass recruitment and marketing of the Hubs, periodical events are held with other interested Partners e.g. SAPS on Crime Prevention, Department of Health on HIV/AIDS campaign, municipalities on women and child abuse etc.
CONCLUSION It is projected that the programme will be spread to all municipalities within the province and nationally. Great consideration is being taken to ensure that the municipalities, with our efforts, will include more allocation of resources within their IDP’s.
