KEY LEADER ENGAGEMENT Who: JIHACC, Deputy Commanding General, BG Matern, Dr. Barth Green (Professor and Chairman of Neurological Surgery, Orthopedics, Rehabilitative Medicine at the University of Miami)What: Key Leader engagement and site visit by Deputy Commanding General, BG Matern.Where/When: MINUSTAH HQ Compound 2311JAN10Why: To link up JTF/JIHACC with a significant Humanitarian Relief effort that is looking toward long term progression by way of establishing multiple Level 2 Health Care facilities that will be adopted into medical training programs and ultimately the establishment of a National hospital for the people of Haiti.Dr. Green is extremely well connected with top level USG/ GoH officials to include the President of Haiti. He possesses robust medical capabilities and a seemingly equal robust funding sources. In addition, this engagement facilitated the possible use of a privately owned port for receiving HA materials (pending a comprehensive assessment), offered to the US for receipt of relative HA materials.The most significant take-away from today was the amount of positive media and local exposure this engagement generated with US personnel not only being present, but through being actively working in partnership with the health practitioners at the Project Medishare site for patient transport and minor level health care support. Project Medishare Site Visit Additional Comments: While on site, a 6 year old boy, that was brought in with severe closed head trauma, bi-lateral pneumo- thorax, bi-lat chest tubes as well as an ET tube was in dire need of EVAC. After numerous attempts by NGO’s, the Team Medic SSG Orth was able to reach back to JIHACC and BN Senior Medic, SFC Dominguez and SSG Giraldo who acted as the on site liaison, to coordinate the immediate air EVAC to the USS Comfort and reach the next echelon of care.
