The idea … • … to use Facebook to connect young people with autism throughout Europe. • To use FB as a mean of developing communication and social skills of people with ASD. • To enable young people with ASD to meet, to travel together, to socialize. • To enable people with ASD to speak up about their experience and to gain more expert knowledge on ASD.

  4. Facebook • Commonly used among young people. • Enables “safe distance” communication. • Enables different kinds of communication, private or public (chat, private messages, comments, wall posts …). • Enables to share interests.

  5. Openning FB accounts • Internet and FB guides (in 4 languages) http://www.autism-ace.eu/datoteke_guide.html • Connecting with other project participants. • Getting to know each other before meeting in person. • Maintaining contact during meetings. • Hopefully – a network that will live further after the project and grow.

  6. Traveling, meeting in person • To meet people you communicate with on FB in person. • To get new experience. • To discover new cultures. • To spend time with new acquaintances during traveling.

  8. ACE Conferences • To present autistic spectrum disorders and the challenges of people with ASD to broader public. • To share expert knowledge, to share experience. • To give a chance to people with ASD to speak up.

Benefits for the participants • Learning to use internet and social networks safely. • Developing communication and social skills. • Improving English language skills. • Travelling, learning about other cultures and habits. • Meeting new people with similar experience. • Establishing possible longterm acquaintances and friendships. • Developing independent living skills.

  10. Research • Facebook as an everyday life tool for supporting people with ASD in their social interaction and communication. • The outcomes will be presented: • on the final event in Ljubljana, September 2011 • available on the project’s web page
