Summary of the seven Commitments by Ministers and High Authorities on Science and Technology under the Lima Declaration: • Promotion of investment in science and technology for development; • Strengthening of national and regional infrastructure; • Strengthening of national, regional and hemispheric policies; • Strengthening and popularization of science, technology, engineering, innovation and science education; • Strengthening of programs for science and technology indicators, data bases, portals, publications and scientific journals • Follow up to meetings of science and technology ministers and high authorities • 15 hemispheric initiatives Department of Science and Technology

Of the 15 identified hemispheric initiatives, the following 10 are part of DST activities: • Integration of gender perspective in science and technology policies and programs in the Americas; • Engineering for the Americas; • National research and education networks (NRENs) in the Americas and the Latin American cooperation in Advanced Networks (CLARA); • Advanced networks in the Caribbean; • Inter-American S&T and Innovation Indicators Program; • Popularization of Science; • Legal metrology for the Caribbean • Scientific education with the support of the Inter-American Network of Science Academies (IANAS); • Biotechnology for the Americas; • Productive competitiveness and employment for the Americas Department of Science and Technology

  11. Metrology: Member States are required to continue supporting the improvement in their national metrology capacities. Gender perspective: Engineering: Support the implementation of the OAS hemispheric program “Advancing the Integration of Gender Perspective in Science and Technology Policies and Programs in the Americas”. Improve the quality of engineering education and strengthen the hemispheric initiative “Engineering for the Americas - EftA”. Biotechnology: Promote innovation with the participation of all players, including academia and the private sector.   12. Popularization of science: Disseminate the role of science and contribute for its social appropriation. Energy: Promote cooperative innovation in energy.
