Ionic Bonds • to “fill” their outer energy shell, atoms give or “steal” electrons from each other • this transfer of electrons creates oppositely charged ions. • oppositely charged ions are attracted to each other, so they bond with each other
Covalent Bonds • to “fill” their outer energy shell, “share” electrons with each other
Molecules • result from ionic and covalent bonds • a group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds • make up compounds- a combination of two or more elements
