Catalyst 16 S Sulfur 32.065 Atomic Number: Protons: Neutrons: Electrons: Element Symbol: Element Name: State of Matter: Atomic Mass: Element type:
Energy Levels The electrons swirl around the nucleus at certain average distances from the nucleus (the protons and the neutrons) in the electron cloud The areas where the electrons travel are called energy levels.
Why do you think there are two electrons on the inner ring and three on the outer ring?
Only a certain number of electrons can be held in an energy level.
The maximum number of electrons that can occupy a specific energy level can be found using the following formula: Electron Capacity = 2n2 The variable n represents the number of the energy level in question. Keep in mind that an energy level need not be completely filled before electrons begin to fill the next level.
