American Society of Safety Engineers Greater Boston Chapter 6th Annual BOSGO (Beanpot Open Scholarship Golf Outing) September 22, 2005
Beanpot Open Scholarship Golf Outing Since 1962, the Greater Boston Chapter has funded scholarships to individual students; contributed to SH&E Programs at Universities and Colleges; supported the ASSE Student Section Leaders and; contributed to the ASSE Foundation. In early 2000, visionaries of the chapter wanted to find a way for the chapter to support the ASSE Foundation even further and the local students who have been studying Health and Safety in the New England Area. Out of this idea, came for the Beanpot Open Scholarship Golf Outing (BOSGO). Many thanks go out to John Spath, Mike Murray, Tony Schiavi, Bob Knudsen and others who made the first BOSGO a success. In succeeding years, the chapter has been able to increase the turnout to the tournament and thus increase its sharing of scholarships to students. As a direct result, in June 2004, at the ASSE National PDC, the Greater Boston Chapter made the largest donation, at that time,
Beanpot Open Scholarship Golf Outing by an ASSE Chapter, $15,100, to fully fund the Greater Boston Chapter Leadership Award. This award is in addition to the chapter’s Ferdinand F. Schroth and Norm LaMontange Scholarships. We are currently working towards increasing this national award from $1,000 to $2,000 each year. The first winner of this scholarship was Lu Yuan, who is a graduate student at UMASS-Lowell and is studying Occupational Ergonomics. Students represent the backbone of ASSE’s future. Thank you for your generous support to create the financial foundation to make these scholarships available. It is a wise investment as we have seen many leaders for our chapter, area, region and Society come from these students that we have supported. Enjoy our crisp, clear New England Fall day and… Hit ‘em straight and long! Eric
