  2. Journal Topic: Roanoke • Task: As you watch the video: “In Search of the Lost Colony of Roanoke,” answer the following questions. The link is located in the cool sites section of this website. • 1. What do you think happened to the settlers at Roanoke? Explain?

  3. Critical Reading for the article, “The First English Settlements.” • Guiding Prompts for the reading: • 1. What economic, political, and social factors contributed to English colonial settlement of North America? • 2. What are the significant events relating to English colonial settlement? • 3. Number each of the paragraphs. • 4. SPQ2R—Survey the text, predict, develop one question of your own and write it at the top. • 5. Mark the text identifying specific information that relates to the guiding questions above. • 6. For each of the bracketed chunks chart important information in the ESPS chart. Note some of the significant events are not located in the brackets. • Remember: The big picture question for this unit of study is as follows: Which colony, Plymouth or Jamestown, is more significant from a U.S. historical perspective?
