SIIA Vision K-20 TECHNOLOGY ► EDUCATION ► AMERICA’S Future
This presentation on the SIIA Vision for K-20 is designed to give: • A perspective on the ed tech industry’s vision for K-20 education • Information about the tools and resources from SIIA • Ways that an organization can contribute or partner with SIIA to support the vision
Global competition is growing … … and the industry is responding
Response to competitiveness • SIIA members are the providers of educational content, services and software necessary to support education as it moves into the 21st Century. • We developed a vision to ensure that all students have access to a teaching and learning environment capable of preparing them to compete globally and lead the world in innovation.
The SIIA Vision for K-20 • Our experience is that technology: • Allows us to teach and learn in ways that were not possible before • Enables us to be more efficient in teaching and learning • Is essential for life-long learning TECHNOLOGY ► EDUCATION ► AMERICA’S Future
Meet the needs of all students Digital technology provides multiple approaches to learning, allowing educators to effectively address each student’s individual learning style, abilities, pace and interests. .
Support accountability and inform instruction Computer-based assessment helps: • measure individual student progress as it occurs • provide educators with valuable data for making instructional decisions
Deepen learning and motivate students Compelling and broadly accessible digital content will • fuel instruction and exploration • provide both the means and the motives for achievement
Facilitate communication, connectivity and collaboration Our “Generation M” students are multi-tasking and multimedia-fluent Virtual communities inspire learners to discover, explore, guide and share—and to refine the collaborative skills so crucial to 21st century work environments.
Manage the education enterprise effectively and economically Schools and colleges use technology • for data analysis and management • to save money while achieving better results. Results? Increased focus and resources on the core teaching and learning mission.
Enable students to learn from any place at any time Technology advancements provide high-speed, mobile Internet access. Students enroll in virtual classes and degree programs and engage in lifelong learning experiences
Nurture creativity and self-expression Students of all ages are now creators of — and commentators on —digital content, not simply consumers of it.
How do we accomplish this? SIIA Vision for K-20 calls for a coalition of stakeholders to recognize this mandate and to work together to realize this opportunity. If you would like to get involved with Vision K-20 implementation, SIIA would like to work with you.
