What’s New for 2013-14? • Field testing =most schools have been assigned Form 1; some schools (36) have been assigned Form 4;Form 4contains field test items in the reading domain • Test Security = directions have been added to ensure students clear their desks before testing, including electronic devices • EL Program Categories = have been changed to match CALPADs categories Assessment Services
What’s New for 2013-14?continued • School/Group List (SGL)=has been reorganized • 4-Picture Narrative = re-prompting directions have been revised • Scratch Paper = students are not allowed to write notes on extra paper, scratch paper, or anywhere in the test book or answer book other than in the response sections Assessment Services
CELDT Overview:The Purpose • Initial Identification:to identify new students who are English learners and determine their level of English proficiency • Annual Assessment:to assess all English learners on their progress in acquiring the English language Assessment Services
Initial Identification (I.I.) • Administered to all newly enrolled (to the district) students in Grades K-12 with a language other than English indicated on their Home Language Survey • Must be administered within 30 calendar days of enrollment • To determine English proficiency for all new students • Administered throughout the year Assessment Services
Annual Assessment (A.A.) • Administered to all continuing English learners in Grades K-12 • Administered September 3, 2013 through October 16, 2013 • To assess the progress of English learners on acquiring listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills • Used in determining Reclassification (w/ELA STAR results, teacher input, parent consultation) Assessment Services

Site Scoring & Data Entry • All portions of the CELDT must be scored by the site for Initial Identification (I.I.) • Scores for I.I. must be entered into PowerSchool AFTERSeptember 13, 2013 Assessment Services
Pre-Id Barcode Labels • Pre-ID barcode labels will be available for pick-up in early October (wait for email) • Pre-ID barcode labels will be provided for students enrolled BEFORE September 16th Assessment Services
