  5. AIMS • Must pass AIMS Writing, Reading and Math to receive a HS diploma. • Five chances to meet AIMS standards • ABOR Honors Tuition Waiver

  6. Class Rank/Grades • GPA is unweighted but class rank is weighted • Rank order is: • 1. Honors core classes (Hrs Eng, math, etc.) • 2. Core classes (regular Eng, math, etc.) • 3. Honors non-core (AP Art History, etc.) • 4. Non-core regular (reg. music, P.E, etc.) An “A” in a Regular class = 4.0 = 4 rank points An “A” in an Honors/AP class = 4.0 = 5 rank points

Course Placement Criteria How will I know which Math, English, & Science classes I can take? • AIMS Scores • Students with approaches or falls far below scores may be placed in Reading, Math Lab, or remedial science courses • Other Standardized Scores or assessments • Junior high classes • Honors Testing Scores

  9. How do students qualify for Honors Courses? Students must meet one of the following to be eligible for honors courses: • Score at or above the 77th percentile in a specific area of the CogAT • Verbal score qualifies for Honors English. • Abstract score qualifies for Honors Science. • Quantitative score is not used for Math placement. Students must score a minimum of 80% on both middle school math semester exams to be placed in an Honors Geometry or Honors Algebra 3-4 class. • Receive A’s in both semesters of subject area and have the subject teacher sign the Course Selection Worksheet next to the honors course you are requesting.

Dual Enrollment vs Advanced Placement (AP) Dual Enrollment: Meet “core” requirements & electives $243 per semester ($76 per credit hour plus $15 registration fee per semester) Grade is the same as the HS grade Transfers in-state and other public institutions and many private schools; not accepted by some selective private schools. Advanced Placement: Meet “core” requirements & some electives $89 per exam Based on a single, national exam administered in May; class grade has nothing to do with exam score Transfers to most institutions, public and private.

Most courses need an Alternative Credit Form to be filled out.
