JCOMM MAN-VI, Sixth session of the JCOMM Management Committee 3 – 6 December, Paris IODE E2EDM Ocean Data Portal Sergey Belov, Nick Mikhailov National Oceanographic Data Centre of Russia
What is the E2EDM technology? The “end to end” data management (E2EDM) technology is considered as set of comprehensive interconnected services for data discovery (using metadata-driven approach), data access and delivery (as well as providing basic publishing services). 22- 25 October, Oostende, 2007 JCOMM MAN meeting, 3 - 6 December, Paris
Architecture The E2EDM integration technology architecture is represented by three levels: • data source level • communication and integration level • application level User Integration Server Data Provider Data Provider Data Provider JCOMM MAN meeting, 3 - 6 December, Paris
Potential use • Technology is extensible to application domains and coding systems • High scalability, allowing to create nested hierarchies of subordinated sub-domains Can be used in various scales: • Regional structures (IODE Regional Programmes (ODINs), etc.) • Operational structures (GOOS, etc.) • Modelling centres Using the E2EDM technology it is possible to establish the IODE/JCOMM distributed marine data system with Ocean Data Portal for improving and make more effective marine information services. JCOMM MAN meeting, 3 - 6 December, Paris
Potential use (cont.) IODE/JCOMM Actual data sets/flow monitoring: • check the actuality and content of the IODE Data Centres resources • preparation of the reports of current status of IODE data sources Providing GOOS/GCOS/COOP users (modelers): • data sources (centres) grouping based on their tasks • delivery required data sets for Modeling Centre(s) on regular basis Providing end-users: • complex information – from different disciplines, observation/ climate/forecasts, data and metadata • tools for integrated data use • regular and standard marine environment assessments –GMA, GEOSS JCOMM MAN meeting, 3 - 6 December, Paris

Goals for 2008 • Intending to establish the network of 10 data provider centres (involving GTSPP and other progammes and projects) • Potential collaboration with other related projects (SeaDataNet, WIGOS) • Present all available data on the Ocean Data Portal • Establish a web site dedicated to the Ocean Data Portal and integration technology JCOMM MAN meeting, 3 - 6 December, Paris
Ocean Data Portal “The objective of the Ocean Data Portal is to facilitate and promote the exchange and dissemination marine data and services.” (The IODE Ocean Data Portal: Concept Paper) Providing transparent access to all involved data centres (operating as data provider) taking into account all security and data policy issues. Supporting the data access requirements of all IOC programmes areas, including GOOS, JCOMM, HAB, etc. May be implemented in the context of global, regional and task-oriented approaches JCOMM MAN meeting, 3 - 6 December, Paris

E2EDM software and portal • E2EDM Data Provider (DP) – set of services, providing the access to the local data system of participating centres. As soon as the Data Provider is installed as a “wrapper” of the local data system, this system becomes a data source for the E2E-based distributed data system • http://e2edm.vliz.be/dpms/admin?action=viewResourceList • E2EDM Integration Server – set of services, providing management and use of the data sources by two-way interaction with Data Providers • http://e2edm.vliz.be/iserv/backend?action=manageProviders • E2EDM Ocean Data Portal prototype – portal-like application providing access to the data of IODE data providers • http://e2edm.vliz.be/e2edmclient/ JCOMM MAN meeting, 3 - 6 December, Paris
