About the Course • SXEX1411: INTRODUCTION TO SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY STUDIES • Teaching medium: ENGLISH • Total Credit Hours: 3.
About the Course • This course is designed to introduce students to a variety of aspects in S&T studies – history, philosophy, sociology, management, policy, and economy. • Students will analyse issues in S&T by using S&T framework – epistemology, ethics, environment, and entrepreneurship. • Episteme = knowledge • Logos = study of • Students will also apply various disciplines of S&T studies to create local contextual understanding and to apply sustainable S&T intellectual and material.
Course Assessment 60% - Final Examination 40% - Continuous Assessment
Attendance • Please ensure that you attend classes (lecture and tutorial). • Attendance is compulsory – make sure that you attend at least 80 percent of the classes. • Absenteeism must be supported by valid documentation. • Never sign attendance on behalf of another student.

Course Outcomes At the end of this course, students will be able to: • Show the diversity of the areas in S&T related to the community that can be studied from various perspectives such as history, philosophy, sociology, management, policy and economics. • Analyse the effect of S&T towards society, epistemology, ethics, environment, and entrepreneurship. • Apply a variety of disciplines in a learning perspective to build a local and contextual understanding of S&T, and practice of sustainable development of S&T.
