Total Servers and Databases • Prl2 - Bibliography for East Asian Studies • Prl3 - old Siku Quanshu (Network version) • Prl4 - SuperStar E-book collection • Prl5 - People's Daily • Siku - New Siku Quanshu (Intranet version) • Sibu - Sibu Congkan • Barn – File server with 2 TB space for the data of Siku Network Version, BEAS, and SuperStar collection • –Totally: 6 web servers, 1 file server with 1TB data

Total Maintenance Cost • SDSC provides discounted rates of system administration and maintenance at • $195/per server/per month • $105/per file server/per month • $75/per month for leasing a server • $85/per hour for setting up and software troubleshooting lab • –Totally Annul Maintenance Cost: ($195 x 6 x 12) + ($105 x 1 x 12) = $15,300

  4. Total Staff Salary Cost • 1 30% System Administrator (SDSC) • 1 25% Program Analyst (UCSD Lib.) • 1 25% Head Librarian (UCSD Lib.) Total Annual Staff Salary Cost: $51,000

  5. New Business Bibliography for East Asian Studies • A supplementary Index to BAS • Developed by Tim McGuire at Stanford • Not updated since Tim’s retirement in 2003 • Applied software IRS WebPoster is not working with the current AD network at SDSC and has been off-line since May 2005 • Ready to retire BEAS?

  6. New Business Sibu Congkan • Difficult access: password, individual IP control, and client/server model • Poor customer service: no upgrade plan, difficult to change the current access model Suggestion: • Not to expend the consortia

  7. New Business Siku Quanshu Database • Separate server with 120 GB for the new Intranet Version at $1,179.25 in Jan. 2005, no recharge has been sent to the participants. • UCM joined the consortia for $5,200. • Testing the new release of Intranet Version 1.2 costs $525 for leasing and maintain 1 server ($75 and $195), configuring the server (3 x $85/hour), no recharge has been sent to the participants. Questions: • Stop the service of Network version? • UCSC is interested in joining, more concurrent users? • Other campuses to join us? • Adopt the new Internet Version?

  9. Future Plan • Cooperation of Online Tutorials for all CJK databases used by UC campuses at East Asia Digital Resource Center with the support of Content Management software: Vignett • Using UCEAB Website CJK DB TUTORIAL to post the online tutorials
