Inspiration for Innovation • Book Study: Jim Collins’ “Good To Great” • The key is to understand what your organization can be the best in the world at, and equally important what it cannot be the best at – not what it “wants” to be the best at. This concept is not a goal, strategy, or intention, it is an UNDERSTANDING……

  3. Inspiration for Innovation • Future Farmers of America has several successful chapters located in Lawrence County Schools.

  4. Lawrence County AG Quick Stats • Alabama rank in production: • 1st Corn Production • 3rd Soybean Production • 7th Cotton Production • 13th in Total Cattle

  5. Goals for Innovation • Improve College and Career outlooks for our students • Increase industrial development, our students working in our county • Increase student enrollment, our students raising new students in our district

  6. What Innovation Has Done for LC • Alabama High School Diploma with Agriculture Endorsement. • Seat hours waived for Ag based classes. • Flexibility in teacher certification for Ag based courses. • Co-Op Credit hous (SAE) • Experts in field to serve as instructors in classes.

  7. Implementing Innovation • Ag in the Classroom • Grade 2 K • Junior Master Gardner • Grade 3 Grade 5 • Ag Based Diploma Tract • Activities integrated into core courses • Math – Science • English – Social Sciences

  8. Innovation in LC • Students graduated with Ag Endorsement • Students Graduated with endorsement on diploma • Ag in Classroom • Teachers Trained • Junior Master Gardner • Teachers Trained • Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival Ag Career Day • Over 2,000 students participated

  9. Innovation at Ag Day • In collaboration with the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival, Lawrence County Schools hosted the First Annual Ag Career day. • Activities included: • Guest Speakers • Hands on activites • College and Career Booths • Livestock exhibits
