  1. EU-Project AIDA - TopTours Development of a Multimedia Alpine Guide (Alpine Guide Italia Deutschland Austria) Dipl.-Geographin Monika Mösbauer Arbeitsgemeinschaft GIS Institut für Geodäsie Institut für Geoinformation und Landentwicklung Universität der Bundeswehr email: monika.moesbauer@unibw-muenchen.de http://agis.bauv.unibw-muenchen.de/projekte/aida/index.htm

  2. EU-Project AIDA - TopTours • Consortium partners • Huber Kartographie, Munich (D) - Coordinator • AGIS - Working-Group GIS University of the Federal Armed Forces, Munich (D) • Sparrer Kartographie, Munich (D) • mapgraphic edition, St. Paul (I)

  3. EU-Project AIDA - TopTours functions: • retrieving fixed tours • designing individual tours within the designated areas • querying tourist information as texts, pictures, video-clips (e.g. route profile and description, culture, sight-seeing spots, practical hints) • input of individual tour information (required time, prices, comfort etc.) • display of calculated elevation profiles • compiling a list of mountain huts and stopovers • storing the selected information (compiling tour-books) • searching for latest information via hyperlinks from the internet • printing user-defined selections (e.g. maps, elevation profiles, station-lists) • down-loading a station list to hand-held GPS-receivers

  4. EU-Project AIDA - TopTours • CD 1 Wetterstein • CD 2 Karwendel • CD 3 Zillertal • CD 4 Dolomiten • CD 5 Allgäu • CD 6 Chiemgau • Selected regions:

  5. EU-Project AIDA - TopTours • Technical concept: • CD-ROM-version • modular architecture (Visual C++) • moduls: map-viewer, routing-algorithm, administration of tours, queries, GPS-interface, printing • data base compatible (ODBC), e.g. Oracle, FoxPro, Access.. • special hyperlinks integrated (supplementary information by internet)

  6. EU-Project AIDA - TopTours • Definition phase - Graphical User Interface

  7. EU-Project AIDA - TopTours • Implementation phase - Graphical User Interface

  8. EU-Project AIDA- Data Data basis

  9. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Official data

  10. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Processing the raster data • Merging different layers Generating one picture • geo-referencing into one uniform reference system: (UTM, WGS84) • matching to one uniform colour-table • creating one coherent seamless area • generating tiles (performance) • Exchange Format: *.gif

  11. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Problems in processing the raster data - Topographic map 1:50.000 • convinient scale for the visualization of e.g. hiking-paths • high information density  originally not produced for a computer visualization • ordering separate layers of raster data  leaving out the dispensible symbology for vegetation • supplementary time-intensive workflow (merging layers) • huge file-size

  12. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Processing the official Bavarian vector data - roads • different format-delivery (OS, DXF) - two different workflows • transform the official vector data into one uniform geodetic reference system (UTM, WGS84) • adapting to the AIDA-dictionary • digitizing additional objects (field paths, trails, tracks, etc.) • changing attributes (e.g. municipal road = path for hiking)  very time-consuming and error-prone  routing along this element would not be possible • deleting dispensable geometry (e.g. to much municipal roads) • DXF-files  double features, because they are delivered with an overlap to the adjacent files

  13. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Official vector data - roads edge X ATKIS-Obj path municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID ....... edge X ATKIS-Obj path municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID ....... edge X ATKIS-Obj path municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID ....... edge X ATKIS-Obj path municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID ....... edge X ATKIS-Obj path municipal. AIDA-Obj Obj-ID ....... path for hiking path for hiking path for hiking path for hiking path for hiking edge X ATKIS-Obj path municipal AIDA-Obj Obj-ID ....... no value

  14. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Different workflow 1) with ATKIS • DXF (18 files) - assignment of the objects in different layers to feature-classes • DXF to OS • OS (19) and DXF-files - adapting to the AIDA-Datamodel • Georeferencing all files • transport from MGDynamo to MGE and Oracle (OX) • Digitizing the additional geometry and special data • time-consuming reassignment of the features from ATKIS to AIDA 2) without ATKIS • Digitizing the geometry and special data • Attribution

  15. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Common workflow after digitizing • transport back to MGDynamo (XO) • digitizing of tours only in MGDynamo possible (splitting geometry) • interactive verification: border-matching, geometric-anomalies (over-/undershoot), lost attributes, no attributes, bridges, node-connection • automatic routine: merging of uniform objects, splitting at cross-points, assigning system-ID‘s to nodes and edges, ASCII (*.asc) • projection the elevation model to geometry - ASCII (*.xyz) • Deleting of double-features • ASCII-Output for database (*.ln1, *.ln2, *pnt, *xyz)

  16. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Official vector data - village boundaries • name of the cell not an attribute  stand-alone text-object • development of an interactive programme to place and correct the name (e.g. deleting dashes) • verifiying the objects with the analogue map • geometry of village boundaries in DXF-format = line feature  OS-format = Polygon  problems with the AIDA-dictionary  effort > benefit  digitizing the necessary village boundaries by AGIS

  17. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Processing the elevation data • projection of the vector data onto the terrain surface to get 3D-coordinates of all nodes and vertices of the routing network  development of a programme • Processing the semantic and multimedia data • geo-referencing the description of tours, addresses of leisure facilities and services, culture, sight-seeing spots, practical hints as texts, pictures, video-clips

  18. EU-Project AIDA- Data • Special data from maps • more special data (Huber)  Problem: time-consuming acquisition

  19. EU-Project AIDA- Software • Applied Software

  20. EU-Project AIDA- GPS • GPS-interface • protocol in ASCII-format • Legende: • R Route • 01 Nr. of the route • Aida-Current name of the route • W waypoint • P001 current number of a waypoint • N3519.3776 latitude of a waypoint • W08540.4503 longitude of a waypoint

  21. EU-Project AIDA- GPS • GPS-interface • menu for selecting the private GPS-receiver
