  1. Plant Morphology • Meristem Tissue- embryonic tissue located at the tips of roots and stem apices (herbaceous & woody plants) and cambium layers (woody plants). • Parenchyma - unspecialized cells occurring throughout the plant. • Sclerenchyma- hollow, non-living cells with thick walls; structural support

  2. Transport System Xylem Tissue- transports water and minerals from the roots to the leaves; Phloem Tissue- transports organic nutrients from the leaves to the roots

  3. Herbaceous and Woody Stems Herbaceous plants exhibit only primary growth while woody plants have secondary growth.

  4. Nonvascular Plants

  5. Bryophyta- the mosses

  6. Hepatophyta- liverworts

  7. Seedless Vascular Plants

  8. Lycopodophyta- club mosses

  9. Psilophyta- whisk ferns

  10. Equisetophyta- horsetails

  11. Pteridophyta- ferns

  12. Seed Vascular Plants • Gymnosperms • Angiosperms

  13. Coniferophyta- conifers

  14. Magnoliophyta- flowering plants • Class Magnoliopsida- dicots • Class Liliopsida- monocots
