Sustainable Forestry • It is concerned with all parts of the forest – trees, smaller plants, soils, wildlife, and water.

Deforestation You may have heard about deforestation of the Rainforest. Trees cut down to make room for cattle, houses, crops, dug up for minerals beneath or flooded to make H.E.P.
Sustainable Management The exploitation of the Amazon’s natural resources can help Brazil boost its GDP and improve the quality of life of its population. Activities like logging and mining need to continue but in a controlled way. So sustainable forest management is required. This means meeting the needs of the present without harming the environment, and so allowing future generations opportunity to meet their needs.
Sustainable forestry – what can you do • Look for products that display the labels of logos that say they come from a sustainable source • Reduce the amount of paper you use • Recycle paper cardboard and wood.
