  4. GUADELOUPE’SWOODPECKER It ‘s an endemic bird because it exists only in Guadeloupe. For a long time, we have destroyed the woodpecker because everything black representedthe devil. .

  5. Threats: deforestation, urbanizationand pesticides The main predators are rats and poaching.

  6. MARINETURTLES On this map you can see the beaches where turtles come to nest: : nesting areas

  7. SEA TURTLES Since1996 a decreeprotects all the species of seaturtles,aswell as theireggs, on the wholeGuadelupeanarchipelago. It wasstrengthened in 2005 by a ministerialorderincludingthe protection of the habitats of the seaturtles

  8. Coral THREATS In the Caribbean, there are more than 50 differentspecies of corals. If nothing isdone to protect them, they will have disappeared in the next 30 years. Researches are made to grow coral in laboratoriesand transplant it on the reef.

  10. BATS There are 13 differentspecies of bats in Guadeloupe. Someof them are endemic. Theyare all protected.

  12. Iguana delicatisima Iguana delicatissima This iguana is endemic in the Lesser Antilles.A third of their population is in Petite-Terre..

  13. Threats: Hishabitat and his nests are destroyed by humansand animals. Young iguanas are threatened by cats and stray dogs. But reproduction with other sorts of iguanas isone of the main causes of the species’ extinction

  14. Manatees Manateeswereverynumerous in Guadeloupe until the beginningof the twentiethcentury . Theywerevictims of massive hunting .

  15. Reintroduction project : Manatees (between 3 and 5 animals from Brazil) willbereintroduced in the nature reserve of Grand Cul-de-sac Marin in Guadeloupe in 2014 .
