Cyberbullying Is a repeated, intentional act done with the purpose of harming another person through technologies such as email, cell phone messaging, social networking web sites, chat rooms, and instant messaging which can be perpetrated by a single individual or a group and does not have to be face to face and could be anonymous.

  7. Prevalence Rates • 10% cyberbullying, 9% cyberstalking (471 participants) • 21.9 % Cyberbullied, 8,6% had cyberbullied someone, 38% knew someone who had been bullied (439 Participants • 55.3% Cyberbullying (666 participants in Turkey)

  8. Impact • General increase in emotional distress • Anger, crying, sad, hurt, embarrassed, afraid, self blame. • Poor concentration, lower achievement and absenteeism. • Peer problems, physical symptoms • Clinical symptoms i.e. anxiety depression and suicidal ideation and behaviour

  9. Coping • Stay offline • Remove yourself from a web site • Talk about the experience • Inform a responsible person • Block your identity • Keep a record of offensive material • Call police or service provider • Ignore

  10. What to do • Increase awareness • Discuss the seriousness of cyberbullying • Discuss consequences for the target and bully • Educate on how to report • Enforce sanctions
