Present situation and existing problems Afghanistan has 3 million hectare pasture More than 33 million different species of animals, total province is 32 (400 districts) Number of animals is not comparable with their production, low rate of growth and less production are due to: Incidence of different diseases Non-existence of enough animal clinics and diagnostic laboratories

  7. Lack of well trained veterinarian Non-existence of vaccine and medicine production in the country Poor feeding management, breeding and selection Lack of proper coordination between the private and public sector

  8. Veterinary and animal husbandry education system in Afghanistan Government • Veterinary schools • Veterinary institutes • Faculty of Veterinary science International Organization training center • FAO, training program • DCA, training center for Para veterinarian

  9. Total veterinarian trained • 950 about 50% is outside the country • From 475 veterinarian 25% left their professional jobs • Present we have about 356 veterinarian in the whole country • Beside this Para-veterinarian and basic veterinary workers trained by FAO and DCA

  10. Importance of veterinary in public health • Control of zoonosis • Meat inspection • Food quality control etc..

Study research and life in Japan • To Attend PhD course • To Research and learn scientific Knowledge • To familiarize with new and modern methods and technology • To interact and learn Japanese culture and tradition • Final goal is to contribute in reconstruction of Afghanistan education system

Sister Universities cooperation and Japan government assistance to Afghanistan • Short-term research program for active professors of KU • Up to date 16 professors benefited • Accepting exchange students from KU • Up to date in TUAT 19 researcher continuing their study • Out of 19, 6 were graduated as Master degree and 3 now teaching at KU • Through JICA laboratory and audio-visual provided to KU

  13. Question to be addressed • Why did you select Japan for your study? • What kind of problems did you face in Japan? • What do you want in the future? • What did you find about Japan?
