  2. Ridge and Valley • It covers the North West corner of New Jersey • It is where the whole of New Jersey gets its dairy products • This region is the owner of part of the Appalachian Mountains • It is also a place of relaxation and recreation

  3. Highlands • This region surrounds the Ridge and Valley region • The region is well known for its variety of rocks. There are types there that are found nowhere else on earth. Some even glow! • A lot of New Jersey’s lakes can be found in this region. Most were formed by melting glaciers that cut through the ground.

  4. Piedmont • This region has the greatest population out of all four regions. • The word Piedmont means foothills or low hills at the bottom of mountains. • The Piedmont land strip is only 20 miles wide. • 540 foot tall cliffs form Piedmont’s eastern boarder. These cliffs are called the Palisades.

  5. Atlantic Coastal Plains • This enormous region covers more than on half of our home state: New Jersey. • This region is less than 400 feet above sea level. The land slopes in the eastern half of the region creating all of our beautiful beaches. • A wide variety of plant and animal life. Geographer Goman states, “About 200 to 300 types of plants, birds, and other animals come together in New Jersey’s wetlands.”
