Why a New Textbook? • When a curriculum discipline arrives at a point in the seven year state textbook adoption cycle. • When a textbook is found to have outdated/inaccurate information. • When a new course of study is written. • When a course audit finds a textbook inappropriate. (i.e. the AP audit)

  3. Textbook Adoption Process • Preview materials are ordered. • Textbook committee meets and uses a rubric to select best textbook. • Selected textbook and supplemental materials are put on display in the teachers’ workroom at the JAESC.

  4. Textbook Adoption Process (continued) • Report is given to Curriculum Council who either recommends it to the School Board or asks for more information. • The textbook is recommended to the School Board for approval. • If approved, textbooks/materials are purchased by Instructional Media Services (IMS).

Textbook Selection Rubric • On a scale of 1 being the lowest to 3, the rubric measures the following Review Criteria: • Critical Standards and Content Alignment • Program Organization • Assessment Support (workbook, web-based tutorials) • Support for English Learners • Support for Special Needs, Struggling Readers • Instructional Planning and Support Components • Technology Component • Teacher Support
