Direct Observations • Counting things one by one. • Example: We counted all the fish in my fish tank one by one.
Indirect Observation • Observing the signs of an organism to find its population in an area • We counted all the hatched duck eggs to determine how many ducks were in the area
Sampling • You count how many there are in a certain area and multiply the number depending on how big the area is around the objects you counted. • I counted all the trees that are in one acrein the rain forest and multiplied it by how many acres were in the rain forest
Mark and Recapture • Capture an organism and mark it so you can trace its activity. • We captured a platypus when it was young and we tracked its activity while growing up.
