Reading Skills Story Structure Characters and Setting David’s New Friends Materials Needed Treasures Book Comprehension Papers Noise Level 1 • Listen to Leaders read task list. • Gather all materials. • Open to page 15 in your Treasures book. • Taking turns with your group members, read aloud David’s New Friends with your group. • When you have finished the story, work together to fill out the Character and Setting Chart with your group. • Turn the chart into the Turn In File with all group members’ names. Skills Write a Personal Narrative Writing1st Day of School • Materials Needed • Writing Journal • Graphic Organizer • Pencil Noise Level 1 • Listen to Leaders read task list. • Gather all materials. • Think back to your first day of second grade (yesterday). • Use the graphic organizer to write down short statements about what happened at the beginning, middle and end of the day. • Next, use your ideas to write about your day in your writing journal. • Be sure to write your name and date at the top of your page. • Finally, share your writing with a partner in your group for feedback. Self-Selected Reading / Accelerated Reader Skills Reading fluency and comprehension SSR and AR points Noise Level 0 • Choose a library book or a book of choice that you have not read. • Be sure you picked a book that you can read alone. • Silently read . • After you finish your book, write the name of the book in your Data Binder. • Be sure to fill in the information about your book in your binder. • If you can answer all the questions in your Data Binder, get your laptop and log on to AR to take your test. • Record your AR score in your Data Binder. . • Materials Needed • Data binder • Book of choice • Computer What will happen if… I don’t get it.
