Background (1) • Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a global issue concerning the urgency of restoring environment and social harmony by corporation as the business responsibility. • The development of CSR in Indonesia still needs much attention from all of stakeholders (government, public, and company). • Out of thousands companies existing, it is indicated that not all of them actually apply the concept CSR to their corporate activity.
Background (2) • Actually company and surrounding society is a unity that should appreciate each other. • The society appreciate the company by “permitting” the existence of company in their environment, while the company should reply it ethically by empowering and developing the society to improve the society welfare. • However, many companies are still absent in contributing to improving the society welfare.

Background (3) • The society welfare will encourage the improved purchasing power, thereby strengthening the market absorbability to the company’s output. • Considering the elaboration above, a study should be conducted on the effect of CSR program implementation on the society’s life welfare.
METHODOLOGY • This paper was based on empirical/sociology legal research. • The primary data was taken from competent sources: the District Reagent, CEO, academics, and local communities. • Secondary data consisted of legal material such as regulation, books, papers, and other references.
DISCUSSION (1) • The vital effect of CSR enactment on community welfare makes CSR program a kind of compulsory program requiring good planning so that its benefit can be felt actually by surrounding society. • The strategic planning of CSR can make this program a social investment to empower the society in order to support economic and social life completely, independently, gradually and sustainably.
DISCUSSION (2) • Seven Areas of CSR to Improve the Welfare of Society: • Agribusiness • Education • Health • The empowerment of Micro-, Small- and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SME) • Infrastructure • Natural and cultural preservation • Strengthening the society and government’s capacity
CONCLUSION • CSR is the company’s absolute obligation as the form of corporate social responsibility in the form of care about and attention to surrounding community. • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) benefits considerably the attempt of making the society prosperous and preserving its surrounding environment, and the form of investment to company performer. • Investment can be the insurance of sustainable company operation and positive brand image. • This benefit can be obtained when the company applies CSR voluntarily, thereby generating reciprocal relationship between the company and the surrounding society. • The society will voluntarily defend the sustainability of company and perceive the company well so that the company’s positive image will be established.
