How Cedar class will work Cedar class is a Year 5 and Year 6 class with 28 children in. Mrs. Taylor will be teaching Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday and Mrs. Dudgeon-Smith on Thursday and Friday. We will both be in school on a Wednesday afternoons while Mrs.Bobbet takes the class for Art. We communicate regularly and any issues and questions will be passed between us. The full time class TA is Ms. Pearson.
PE lessons PE lessons are on Tuesday with Mr.Probin (the school’s learning mentor and trained PE teacher) and on Fridays with Mrs. D-S. This term Mr.Probin will be working on fitness and team skills and Mrs. D-S will be teaching the children netball. The children need to have a full PE kit, including outdoor sports shoes. Hair must be tied back and earrings removed or taped.
Curriculum Our Geography and History topic this term is Ancient Greece. This also links in to our Art and DT topics. In Science, the children will be learning about the Earth, Sun and Moon. If you have any books at home on the subject you are willing to lend the school, or any websites you think might be useful, please let us know. The children will continue to have music lessons with Mrs. Brown on a Friday morning.
Homework Homework will be set on a Friday and is due in on a Wednesday morning. It will be a mixture of Literacy, Numeracy and other subjects. We will set tasks that require independent research. Spellings will be set on a Monday and tested on a Friday. Year 6 homework will be set by Mrs. Heather, so as to ensure continuity and Mrs. Ashman will set homework for her group. If you have any questions or worries about homework, please speak to us about it. We know it can be tricky balancing home and school life and we will help to support you and your child in any way we can.
Supporting your children They all have home school reading records, for two way communication. Please comment and sign when you have heard your child read. If they are a confident reader and are reluctant to read aloud, ask them questions on what have read to ensure they have understood and please sign their record. This helps us know how they are progressing with their reading and ensures they are reading appropriate books. We are always available before and after school to discuss any questions you may have about your child’s progress or through the office during school hours. There will be parent consultation evenings in October for you to discuss how your child is settling in.
School website The Cedar Class page will be up and running shortly and will include details of what the children are learning, the class timetable, weekly class newsletters, suggestions of websites that can support your child’s learning and important dates in the term. Our class page can be accessed through the St. Michael’s School website.
