A bit about myself • Graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Degree in English. • Received my Teaching Diploma on the East Coast of Australia at the University of Western Sydney • 17th year at Collingwood • Kindergarten (5 years), Grade 4 (the remainder…) • Two children in the school (Grade 2 and Grade 6)
Other Teachers & Families • Three other teachers: • Grant Harder, Lise Middleton & Pete Davidson • AF this year is Natalie Anderson • New families to Collingwood: • Iris, Kevin, Rosa and Jared • class parents- affectionately known as “Class moms”: Jodi Pallan (Samantha’s mom)
Upcoming Field Trips • September 15th-17th • All Grade 4 students will be departing from Wentworth at 7:30am. • We will return at 4:00 on Wednesday afternoon for pick up from Wentworth. • September 18th: Whytecliff Park: Shoreline Clean-up, Ecology based activities, leadership games. Regular arrival time at Wentworth, 4:00 return to Wentworth. • September 19th: Grouse Mountain: First Nations Activity, Ecology Activities-all guided by Grouse staff. Regular arrival time at Wentworth, 4:00 return to Wentworth.
General School Information School Day • Homeroom and attendance is done at 8:30am, if you arrive later you must get a late slip from reception Parking, Drop-off and Pick-up • drop-off -- please give yourself extra time in the morning, always better to arrive early. • pick-up -- be sure to put traffic pass on the dashboard, be punctual (not early or late) in order to make a most efficient process for all families • At any time, do not park on gravel lot or block it unless you are picking up JK children • carpooling, parking on upper streets and getting your children, will all help ease traffic at the end of the day
General School Information Daycare • Daycare is an option for working parents at 7:30am in the FSC. After school, children with working parents may use daycare. • Very important to note that it is not a play centre, parents should try to pick up as soon as possible at the end of the day
General School Information Communication • Email • check the website and the blog, homework will be posted each Monday. Please also check for daily updates from Ms. Forbes: www.collingwood4f.weebly.com • take note of dates in student agendas and on the Collingwood school website • keep all contact information up-to-date • check PCR : Report Cards, • Complete in all forms**Several online forms are incomplete. If you are unsure whether you have completed the required forms, please ask as I do have a list. Emails went out today to families with incomplete forms. • volunteers, please submit a criminal record check, pick up forms from Reception, good for 5 years. • Hot lunch: portal is open. Please check school website for information.
General School Information Uniforms • Label all belongings • #1 dress on Wednesdays • Be aware of PE days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) • Consider having outdoor shoes or boots for playing outdoors especially in colder and wetter weather Allergy-aware school • Please be aware and considerate of allergies within class, especially when sending in treats Snacks • Keep them simple, only microwave for lunches
Classroom Philosophy • Caring and respectful • Encouraging each child to strive for their personal best • Foster responsibility, independent learning and critical thinking • Develop character • Get involved in all that our school has to offer.
Homework Expectations • Always posted to the class website. Also posted on the whiteboard and it is the student’s responsibility to record in their agendas. • Students respond to the weekly blog post directly on the website. • Paragraph/written homework will be done via students’ mycw /Google account where each student has already created a homework file. Each time they complete an assignment, it should be titled and dated and will automatically be shared with me. This has already been set up for each student. • Homework • Reading • 20 minutes everyday • Homework • Math (will be assigned by your child’s math teacher) • Language Skills • French (website is linked to our weebly site)
