Status • First module tests conducted in Liverpool mid-January • Using DCDC plug-in version SM01 • Based on a commercial Buck (step down) converter (10V down to 2.5V, rated at 5A) • Same circuitry to be used on stavelet (plus additional one-wire control) • Once shielding of DCDC (coil) addressed – module performance comparable to Serial Powering • End of February, module tested at CERN with Stavelet version of DCDC (STV10) 595e 603e 595e • Module performance again comparable to Serial • Powering of module 598e
Status • Testing of module with DCDC shows peak currents of 2.89A, quiescentis ~2.4A • For a 4 module stavelet the current draw will fall between 8A (sustained) and peaking up to 11.56A (or higher) • Exceeds the current rating of the EOS Glenair connector, rated at 6A • One solution to mitigate the high current demand is to operate the DCDC with a higher input voltage • Currently operates at 10V input voltage, current conversion ratio is 0.31 (with 80% efficiency) • Translates to 2.37A (quiescent) and peaking at 2.8A during a threshold scan • Operating at 12V reduces the current conversion ratio to 0.26 – results in peaking currents of 2.35A • Increasing to 15V (max safe operating voltage of DCDC), results in a peaking current of 1.88A • This puts the quiescent current draw at ~6.3 A (just outside Glenair spec.) • Ok with this? • What else • DCDC patch boards for the stavelet have arrived at RAL • Converter replacement – used for testing a module on stavelet without the DCDC converter (reference measurement) • 40 off STV10 DCDC converters (stavelet) delivered to CERN • As of this week, the coils are being added to the boards and then passed to test stand for validation • Will be shipped with the UK shield boxes (courtesy of Oxford) • Shipment date unknown... • Will miss the AUW milestone of testing a DCDC module on a stavelet
