  4. Positives of labeling • How is labeling psychological disorders positive for those suffering from them?

  5. Stigmas attached with labeling • Rosenhan: hospital • Langer: videotapes • Page: rooms

  6. Evaluate • Is it necessary to label psychological disorders? • Is it positive or negative to label psychological disorders?

  7. ADHD • Is ADHD a legitimate disorder? (dopamine, grey matter) • ADHD diagnosis rates—what does this suggest about the disorder? • Treatment: Ritalin (dopamine SRI) & Adderall (amphetamine) • Side effects of Ritalin? Adderall? • 30-50% of adults are still diagnosed with ADHD that were diagnosed as children. Thoughts? • Hunter vs. Farmer Hypothesis—no genetic disadvantage? Should ADHD be considered a disorder? Should ADHD be treated biologically?

  9. Homework • Complete abnormal chapter. • We will discuss anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, & personality in the next 2 classes. Come prepared!
