Common queries: What if there’s more than 2 authors? Common queries In text (first time you cite) • (Brown, Esdaile, & Ryan, 2003) or Brown, Esdaile and Ryan (2003) • Subsequent citations: (Brown et al., 2003) or Brown et al., (2003). • If there are 6 or more authors, then you can use “et al.” from the outset. In Reference list - You must include all the authors
Common queries: Secondary referencing... Whenever possible you should use the original work. If this is not feasible, you must make clear that you have not read the original by referring to the work in which you found the reference. In the reference list only include details of the work that you read. In-text citation • Gibb’s reflective cycle (1988) cited in Jasper (2003) shows that... or • Gibb’s reflective cycle is a seminal theory in reflective practice (Gibbs, 1988, cited in Jasper, 2003)
