  2. Mission Statement The Leadership Institute is a comprehensive integrated program for identifying, developing and sustaining high performing leaders. It serves ATF’s current and aspiring leaders. The Leadership Institute encompasses a wide variety of activities which include classroom training, technology-based training, developmental assignments and mentoring programs. These diverse activities have a common goal: high performing leaders throughout ATF.

Aspiring Leaders Program • Stepping up to Leadership Program (GS-9 thru 12) • Management guidance for developing others • Leadership Enhancement Program (non-supervisory GS- 13 and 14) • Self-development leadership training (entry level on up) • Introduction to leadership (Academy and On-Boarding Process)

Program Description • The Stepping up to Leadership Program is a: • Twelve-month aspiring leaders program • For non-supervisory GS-9s, 11s, and 12s • The program includes a mix of: • Formal coursework • Self-assessments • Developmental assignments • Other activities aimed at developing leadership skills of non-supervisors

Purpose • The primary goal of the SUTL Program is to develop six core ATF Leadership Competencies: • Organizational Awareness • Plan, Organize and Prioritize • Teamwork and Collaboration • Decisiveness • Self-Management • Integrity and Ethics • An additional goal of the SUTL Program is to provide an opportunity for individual assessments • A final goal is to provide individuals with an assessment of their leadership strengths

  7. Key Requirements • 12-month program includes: • 90-minute program orientation • Completion of Leadership Assessment • Program IDP w/supervisor • Structured Learning Experience • LearnATF online leadership training; monthly discussion • Assigned reading on leadership • End-of-Program writing assignment

  8. Leveraging Technology • SkillSoft training courses/LMS • getAbstract book summaries/LMS • Web meetings (Adobe Connect/Saba Centra) • Instant messaging for team break-outs

  9. Monthly Discussion Process • Teams are pre-assigned specific questions • Discussion leaders arrange virtual meeting with team to discuss • Discussion leader or designate presents team’s question at monthly training session. • All participants must attend and participate.

  10. Results, Lessons Learned • Face-to Face Orientation (wherever possible) • Extended preparation time for facilitator • Some Lecture Needed • Consider technical issues: • Recording Sessions • Headsets • Training space • Team Dynamics
