See-Think-Wonder Describing, Interpreting, Wondering a) Look at the image silently for about a minute b) SEE - what do you see? what do you observe? explain what you see. c) THINK - based on what you see, what do you think is happening in the image? what do you see that makes you think that? d) WONDER - what questions do you have about this image? what issues or ideas does it raise in your head? e) Share and compare; what is similar? what is different?

  4. Looking Ten X Two Observing, Describing, Wondering • Look at the image quietly for at least 30 seconds. Let your eyes wander. • List 10 words or phrases about any aspect of the picture. • Repeat Steps 1 & 2: Look at the image again and try to list 10 more words or phrases to your list.

  5. The Explanation Game Observing Details and Building Explanations • Name it: Give what you see a name; what would you call this? • Explain it: What could it be? What role of function might it serve? Why is it here? Why are we talking about it? • Give Reasons: What makes you say that? Or why is that so? • Generate Alternatives: What else could it be? And what makes you say that?

You can now see more of the image. What do you see that is new? How does this change your ideas about what it is? What new things are you wondering? Look at the small part of this image. What do you see or notice? What do you think it is? What makes you say that? What are you wondering?

Write down anything you know, or your first impressions of the topic. • Silently. Move around and look at all the responses of other groups • Discuss. What is the big idea? • Identify the major Changes that you experienced from reading this text; what changes in attitudes, thinking, or actions are suggested by the text? How will it change you? • Jigsaw; find a partner from another group and share the ideas that you jotted down from your discussion
