E N D
1. I was absent yesterday. Do I still have to take the quiz/test? • YES! ALL assignments, quizzes, tests and projects that have been previously announced are due the day you returnto school. It is only NEW assignments that get the “two days for each day absent” extension.
2. Do we need to annotate? • Annotation is nothing new. You have been told to do it since at least JH. Your annotations trigger key thoughts or discussion points for you to bring up in class. Furthermore, you are going to need some type of annotation system for college. The basic rule? If you can write on it annotate and if you can’t write on it, use sticky notes.
3. Was my paper/project supposed to be written in pen? • Major papers and projects are ALWAYS done in pen or typed. The pen should be black ink, although blue is sometimes acceptable. Green, pink, purple, turquoise, etc… are never acceptable. Pencils are for notes, scan tron tests, and math.
4. Where do I FIND MY MAKE-UP WORK WHEN I’M ABSENT? • Each 6 weeks you’ll have a folder w/a calendar in it letting you know what we’re doing each day. The folder has 95% of the assignments already in it, so when you are absent, you really already have your make-up work in your possession. • In addition, I will update daily the calendar on my teacher web page. Occasionally I will send out reminders via Edmodo. • You may contact me w/any questions via email or edmodo. *Note: in most cases I will respond to the email faster than edmodo.
5. Do you have a stapler? Pencil sharpener? Kleenex? Etc…. • All extra supplies are kept in the tall locker cabinet. I trust that at 15 and 16 years old you know how to use them, so if you need to use them and I’m not in the middle of a lesson, help yourself. Get stapling done before I start class. You don’t need to ask me. These things are there for you!
6. Monday:Teacher announces, “Tomorrow’s test will be scan tron.”Tuesday:Student asks, “Do you have a pencil?” • 1st of all, a pencil should be part of your every day supplies. 2nd, you were told the day before what to bring. 3rd, refer to the previous slide. Please do not waste the classes quiz/test time by not being prepared on these days.
7. CAN I TURN THIS IN LATE? • Late work in not accepted. However, you should always complete your assignments. So if you do not have something at the time it is due, then it is up to you to put it in the appropriate tray for me to take a look at when I have time. You will still receive a 0, but I note in the grade book that you completed the work. *Note: if you left it in your locker and are turning it in next period, it’s still late!!!
8. I was absent. Where do I turn in my work I have? • There are stack trays on the side counter and they are labeled, “Turn Papers In” and “Pass Papers Out.” The trays are also labeled by period. So any work you turn in after I have collected it, should go into the appropriate tray.
9. May I go to the restroom, my locker, the counselor, etc…? • NO! My very 1st classroom rule is that you take care of your personal business before getting to my class. Once you are in my room, you are on my time. And, on the rare occasion that you are asked to work independently, that is not an invitation to ask to leave class. Normally those times of independent work are to give everyone, including myself, a chance to get caught up on things. If I’m writing passes I can’t do my work.
10. What do I do when I enter class late or get called out of class? • Put the date. • Sign your FIRST and LAST name on the sign in sheet. • Circle the reason for signing the log. • Include the times.
11. When are tutorials? • Tutorials are Monday and Wednesday after school from 2:45 PM - 3:15 PM OR by appointment. Appointments should be made at least 24 hours in advance.
12. What is you name and how do I spell it? • Ms. McKinnon
assignment • Using the notes you’ve just taken, you are to complete the window pane I am giving you. In each pane of the window, draw a picture or symbol to help you remember the procedure we have just reviewed. This is due tomorrow for a quiz grade.
