Alarm Management - Alarm Cycle • Alarm Event • An event occurs which generates an alarm message • Alarm message received by ReliaTel • Alarm Displayed • Alarm message is matched with a predetermined severity level for that specific message • Message appears in the Text column of the Alarm List • Alarm is displayed in the Alarm List • Operator Intervention – Acknowledging the alarm • Operator acknowledges alarm, work begins on resolving issue • Operator Resolution – Clearing the alarm • Operator clears alarm after issue is resolved

  4. Alarm Management - Severity Coding • Four severity levels tracked in ReliaTel • Applies to: • Alarm List • Metric Dashboard • Voice Dashboard

Acknowledging and Clearing Alarms • Alarms are generated by the system based on preset criteria • Sources • SNMP traps • SNMP walk • Performance metrics for devices (such as CPU usage, in/out bandwidth, etc.) • Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) quality of service (such as MOS or latency) • Operator response • Acknowledge the new alarm • Upon resolution, clear the acknowledged alarm

Acknowledging and Clearing Alarms (cont.) • Acknowledging the alarm • Use the ACK (acknowledge) button to change the state from New to ACK • Displayed in the Alarm List • Alarms can be acknowledged through: • Client • Remotely • E-mail • SMS • Remote acknowledgement (e-mail or SMS) is set up by the administrator • Clearing the alarm • Use the CLR (clear) button to change the state from ACK to Cleared • Upon clearing, alarm is removed from the alarm list and moved to the Cleared list • Alarms can be cleared through: • Client • Remotely • E-mail • SMS • Remote clearing (e-mail or SMS) is set up by the administrator

  11. Entity Details – States Tab • States Tab • Sets ‘Allowed’ and ‘Inhibited’ for several entity related functions • ‘Allowed’ enables the operation to continue • ‘Inhibited’ stops the operation for a specified period of time (or indefinitely)

  13. Entity Details – Alarm Log Tab • Alarm Log tab • Messages pertaining to alarms only • NTF – indicates whether the alarm will generate a coverage rule • Alarm ID – unique identifier for each alarm • Text – same text that appears in the Alarm List

Alarm List Management Tools • Alarm List interface management tools • Node filter • Filter alarms by: • Center or subcenter • Entity • Characteristics • Expand tree to select node • On-the-fly (filter cannot be saved for future reference) • Profile filter • Filter alarms by: • Center or centers/subcenter or subcenters • Class or classes • Characteristics • Dedicated interface to set up profiles • Profiles can be saved for future reference • Profiles can be edited • Operators – private profile filters only • Administrators – private and global profile filters

  20. Alarm List Management Tools - Profile Filter • Filters the Navigation tree by: • Center • Class • Operators • Create and save center or class filters – private only • Administrators • Create and save center or class filters – global (available to all) or private

Alarm List Management Tools - Profile Filter (cont.) • Creating a Profile filter (steps are the same for center and class filters) • Select the filter type. • Click New. • Enter: • Filter Name • Private filter • Default • Not editable for operators • Center • Multiple centers (or classes)can be selected

  22. Alarm List Management Tools - Profile Filter (cont.) • Click Save. • Apply the filter. • Select the new filter • Click Apply. • Navigation Tree is filtered • Alarms also filtered • Only alarms in Test center appear

Alarms – Multi-Select Options • Methods to select multiple alarms on a single page/multiple pages: • Select All button • Control + Mouse • Shift + Mouse • Select All button • Most efficient way to select blocks of alarms spanning multiple pages • Recommend to begin with filters to define the Alarm List • Table filter (for data in tabular format) • Alarm State filter • Control + Mouse • Select alarms singly • Spans multiple pages • Shift + Mouse • Select blocks of alarms • One page only; will not span multiple pages

  24. Alarms - Multi-Edit • Multi-edit – last alarm in list is edited, applies to all alarms selected 2. Click Edit 1. Select alarms 3. Apply edits (ACK, CLR, severity level, notes) 4. Click Apply or press Enter

Alarm State Selection/Notification Status • Alarm State Filtering • Notification Status • Applicable if Notification turned on; current status only is displayed; not a log • Open from an alarm • Entire alarm list is filtered by your selection • Cleared alarms eventually roll off the alarm list • Log period determines how long they are visible • BlackList alarms are not included in ‘All’
