Pub 16-1-1 • CIS/A/554/CDV and 591/RVC: Receiver specs to 18 GHz: • No new requirements but concerns raised if 1 MHz IF bandwidth selectivity is met with present instrumentation • Goal is to ensure that selectivity is met by current instrumentation used above 1 GHz • CDV passed; FDIS to be issued International EMC Standards Activity
Pub 16-1-2 • CIS/A/577/CDV and A/567/CC: LISN Specs. • Measure magnitude and phase; include rationale • 40 dB isolation between phase and neutral/ground • If phase tolerance is exceeded, provides ways to include fact in uncertainty budget International EMC Standards Activity
Pub 16-1-4 • CIS/A/565/CDV: Turntable, test setup table and tower: • Use NSA-type of measurements; broadband antenna for 200-1000 MHz range only at this time • Covers “raised” turntable/tabletop combination • If floor standing product extends beyond any setup table, no need to perform test International EMC Standards Activity
Pub 16-1-4 • CIS/A/602/CDV: Site validation above 1 GHz: • Uses VSWR method of comparing maximum deviations for several antenna positions using both polarizations • Broadband transmit antenna E and H plane requirements stated and moved to illuminate sides of test volume • Receive antenna at normal position for making radiated emission measurements • Site VSWR must be less than or equal to 5 dB • Alternate: Omnidirectional probe in test volume; transmit antenna at receive antenna site International EMC Standards Activity

Pub 16-1-5 • CISPR/A/454/Q and A/476/RQ: Antenna Calibration • Questionnaire results indicated that National Committees preferred that E-field measurement forms the basis for compliance using properly calibrated common antennas • Maintenance project launched to implement • Initially up to 1 GHz, but has application over 1 GHz • Proposal for at least one calibration procedure due in October 2005 • ANSI C63.5-2004 an interim possibility International EMC Standards Activity
Pub 16-2-3 • CIS/A/573/FDIS and A/585/RVD: Measurement method > 1 GHz: • No antenna “aiming” or “boresighting” • No antenna height search if EUT contained in receiving antenna beamwidth • EUT rotated no more than 15 degree steps • Published International EMC Standards Activity Don HEIRMAN Consultants
CISPR A 16-2-3 Measurements above 1 GHz International EMC Standards Activity Don HEIRMAN Consultants
CISPR A 16-2-3 Measurements above 1 GHz International EMC Standards Activity Don HEIRMAN Consultants
Pub 16-2-3 • CISPR/A/543/CD and A/571/CC: Uniform Arrangement testing for radiated emissions and immunity • Chamber calibration (semi-anechoic) needs to satisfy “plane” and “volume” immunity and emission requirements, respectively • Joint task force activity with SC77B • No 61000-4-X number assigned yet • CDV being prepared. CISPR Subcommittee I • CISPR I documents citing work above 1 GHz • CISPR I/105/CDV & I/161/RVD: Limits and measurement methods 1-6 GHz • CISPR I/106/CDV included 6-18 GHz-failed • Each reference: • 16-1-1 for instrumentation • 16-1-4 for antennas • 16-1-4 for test site validation • 16-2-3 for test method International EMC Standards Activity Don HEIRMAN Consultants
CISPR SC I Activities • ITE Activity • Improvements of test setups • Improvement of telecom port measurements • Control of common mode load • Measurement uncertainty in test reports • Definition of ITE with radio transmitter and/or reception function International EMC Standards Activity
CISPR SC I Activities • ITE Activity (CISPR 22) • CIS/I/145/NP & I/156/RVN: Power Line Communications (“almost” Broadband Access in the USA) • Should only radiated emission measurements be used for compliance below 30 MHz? • What impedance device should be used in the measurement? • Can the Longitudinal Conversion Loss (LCL) be quantified as this power line “load” is unbalanced? • A consensus was not achieved on a CDV and an NP was produced instead effectively starting over. Task group formed in SC I to come up with new proposal International EMC Standards Activity
CISPR SC I Activities • ITE and other product activity • Immunity of ITE for CISPR 24 • Radiated immunity up to 6 GHz • Immunity of Receivers for CISPR 20 • About to start maintenance activity • Immunity work for new CISPR 29 • Immunity testing for TV receivers—Objective picture assessment International EMC Standards Activity
CISPR SC I Activities • ITE and other product activity • Maintenance of CISPR 13 covering emissions from sound and TV broadcast receivers and associated equipment • Maintenance of CISPR 20 on immunity complements CISPR 13 International EMC Standards Activity
CISPR SC I Activities • Multimedia Emissions—CISPR 32 • To replace CISPR 22 and 13 • Focus on products which will meet Class B emission limits • Draft being prepared to handle • Table top, Floor standing, Wall mounted • Home entertainment equipment • Testing in a FAR • Provide general test setups, not all International EMC Standards Activity
Summary • Much work internationally related to activity above 1 GHz in CISPR Subcommittee A in its development of horizontal standards to be used by the product committees. • CISPR Pub 16-1-X, 16-2-X, and IEC 61000-4-20, 4-21, 4-22 (and others) are reposititory • Work in Subcommittee I makes use of SC A activity and covers ITE, multimedia, and receiver issues • For further information, contact the author International EMC Standards Activity
