OIF and UXPi liaison report Tom Palkert Xilinx Aug. 2004 Keystone
OIF PLL (Physical Layer) activity • Current efforts related to FC are CEI (Common Electrical Interface) • CEI specifies: • 6G (short and long reach) • 11G (short and long reach) • 6G is specified for legacy applications • 11G is specified for ‘greenfield’ applications
Ballot activity • 6G SR and LR, 11G SR out for straw ballot again.
OIF CEI possible work items • Clause 8: an 11G Medium Reach (MR) NRZ binary coding channel classification with a minimum reach of 600mm (700mm), optimized for minimum power. • The proposed solution uses the Long Reach TX (Pre-emphasis) with the Short Reach RX (No Eq.).
UXPi liaison • UXPi has performed analysis on feasibility of medium reach (600mm) low power 11G link. • Results use NRZ with pre-emphasis, no RX equalization
11G Medium Reach summary • The transmitter reference model used for channel compliance testing of Medium Reach interfaces is as follows: • 1. Transmit amplitude of both 360 mVppd and 770 mVppd. • 2. A TX edge rate filter simple 40dB/dec low pass of 75% of Baud Rate • 3. Effective Driver UUGJ, UHBHPJ and DCD as in Table 7-3. • 4. Equalizing filter with 2-tap baud spaced emphasis no greater than a total of 6dB with finite resolution no better than 1.5dB. • 5. Worst case transmitter return loss described as a parallel RC element, see 2.B.7. • 6. Maximum baud rate that channel is to operate at or 11.1 Gsym/s, whichever is lowest, see 7.3.1.1.
