  18. Best Practices • Basmati Marketing • 284 SHG’s & 13 FIG’s were formed and extensively trained in pre and post harvest practices. • The practice of collective bargaining was introduced. • All exporters/big traders were invited and they negotiated the prices with FIG chairmen. • They entered into three year agreement for purchase of entire lot of organic/non organic basmati paddy at 175%/275% respectively of the prevailing prices. • We are repeating this experiment for coarse cereals this year.

  19. Best Practices 2.Enriched Composting • Iron pyrite/rock phosphate/waste cocoons/suhaga etc were mixed with the usual composting materials. This is proving to be as good as chemical fertilizers/micro nutrients and ideally suited to rain fed agriculture. • Bio fortification with bio agents like trichoderma and pseudomonas. • We are experimenting with introducing jatropha cakes in composting and adding suitable microbes in organic agronomic practices to facilitate quick and appreciable release of nitrogen at critical stages in growth cycle of plants.

  20. Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) Steps Taken So Far • Instructions issued to Districts on 31st August 2007. • Working group for District Agriculture Planning formed in Districts. • SREP’s for all except 2 Districts have been finalized and sent to Pantnagar University for further modification (SREP’s of 8 Districts have been approved by MANAGE).
