Two Revolutions in Russia The. Best. PowerPoint.
“Nobody seeing those enthusiastic crowds could have imagined that in less than four years, Nicky’s (Nicholas II) name would be splattered with mud and hatred.” –An Exiled Russian Noblewoman.
Revolutionary Rumblings • In 1914 the Russian Empire stretched from Eastern Europe to the Pacific. • Was still dominated by nobles, priests, and an autocratic czar. • Czars had made some reforms, but not enough to relieve the increasing pressure in the nations crisis. The elected Duma had no real power. • Revolutionaries began to hatch radical plots, some to overthrow the czarist regime. • In order to avoid Nicholas II’s secret police, revolutionaries worked under extreme discipline. They believed that a revolution would happen, but the time was not yet ripe.
WORLD WAR ONE!!!!! D: • The outbreak of war in 1914 fired national pride and united Russians. Troops dashed to the front lines, but soon found that their resources were becoming strained. • By 1915 soliders had no rifles, no ammunition, and no medical care. By 1915, there were over TWO MILLION Russian casualties. • As a patriotic gesture, Nicholas went to the front line, leaving his distrusted German born Czarina in charge.
World War I • Nicholas II’s wife/ czarina was distrusted by her subjects because she was German born and lived in Germany before the war.
