EU-SILC ad hoc module 2006 on social participation and AES (optional) • Participation and frequency (Daily, Every week, Several times a month, Once a month, 5 At least once a year (less than once a month) in the last 12 months in: • informal voluntary activities (private) voluntary activities to help someone. It includes cooking for others; taking care of people in hospitals/at home; taking people for a walk, shopping… It excludes any activity that a respondent undertakes for his/her household, in his/her work or within voluntary organizations). • activities of political parties or trade unions (If the respondent, during the last twelve months, participated in activities related to political groups, political association, political parties or trade unions. Participating in formal strikes/demonstrations is not included.

Receiving training organised by such association is excluded). • activities of churches or other religious organisations (activities related to churches, religious communions or associations. Attending holy masses or similar religious acts or helping during these services is also included.) • activities of recreational groups or organisations (recreational/leisure activities arranged by a club, association or similar. It can be sport groups, hobby associations, or leisure clubs.)
EU-SILC ad hoc module 2006 on social participation and AES (optional) Participation in: • activities of charitable organisations (participation in the unpaid work of charitable organisations groups or clubs, includes unpaid charitable work for churches, religious groups, humanitarian organisations) • activities of other groups or organisations (activities of environmental organisations, civil right groups, neighbourhood associations, peace groups etc.) • Attending meetings connected with these activities is always included.

Administrative work. Preparing activities, work for events. Baking, etc. for the organisation, working in the canteen. Repairs and other odd jobs for the organisation. Voluntary fire brigade. Bookkeeping for clubs

Time Use Survey-Characteristics The data collected on the basis of a gentlemen's agreement every 10 years based on the HETUS manual • Statistical unit: persons, households and time. • 14 European countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Finland, United Kingdom and Norway. • Data for Sweden are available: https://www.h2.scb.se/tus/tus/default.htm • Populations covered in the countries for which data are available: • Italy: 3+; Bulgaria: 7+; United Kingdom: 8+; Norway: 9-79, • Germany, Estonia, Spain, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia, Finland: 10+; • Belgium: 12+; France: 15+; Poland: 15+;
Potential: • Quite a lot of data already available (rates, duration) from the Time Use Survey 2000 and forthcoming 2010 data collection, • Participation rates and frequency available from the EU SILC ahm for all the EU Member States Gaps: • No full EU coverage for the TUS, • Activities types quite aggregated, • No measurement of the work volume or value
