Workshop on transportation routes Region South-South East 24th November 2006, Vienna Transportation route 3 – Velke Kapusany - Baumgarten
Gas Transit and Transmission - Basic Historical Data • 1971 – construction of the 1st gas line section - for 28 bcm/y • Today: 4 – 5 pipelines running in parallel for total capacity of 94 bcm/y • Total length of transit system pipelines – 2270 km • Length of route (VK – Lanžhot / Baumgarten) - about 455 km • Transmission presently: gas import flows from Russia to western Europe only; no defaults in transit contracts in the last 10 years
Transit and Transmission - Basic Technical Data (1) • Transit and transmission systems are identical, without separation • Pipeline dimensions – from DN 50 to DN 1400, DN 1200 and DN 1400 prevail • Nominal pressure of 6.1 MP and 7.35 MPa • Entry point from Ukraine: Veľké Kapušany with available free firm capacity of appr. 10 mil. cm/day • Exit point Baumgarten: no free firm daily capacity at present, interruptible capacity is offered • Exit point Lanžhot: approximately 7 mil. cm/day free firm capacity • Commercial unit – capacity unit in cubic meters at 20°C, absolute pressure 101.325 kPa and relative humidity 0%.
Transit and Transmission - Basic Technical Data (2) • Transmission system connected to the management system continuously providing with information on the state of technological devices and enabling optimal regulation of operations • Reliable modern diagnostic methods of damages and for failure-free operation; 30 years of transmission system without serious failures • Daily transport management through standard nomination/re-nomination procedures
Transit and Transmission - Commercial Information • Gas presently imported to Europe – approx. 50% from main resource in Russia • Transit flows through Slovakia – nowadays exclusively from Russian source • Gas import to Slovakia - about 93% to western Europe and about 7% for domestic consumption • Contractual conditions with biggest shippers are based on historical long-term contracts for high volume quantities. There are also new short-term contracts for lower quantities. • The access to the transmission system is regulated and subject to transparency and non-discrimination principles.
Storage in Slovakia • Storage facilities of 2.4 bcm in the West Slovakia used for supply purposes • Owners: • Nafta Gbely, a.s. (1.75 bcm) • Pozagas Malacky, a.s. (0.65 bcm)
Legislative Information • Transmission and distribution activities are subject to regulation of the Regulatory Body • Trade with commodity is not governed by regulation • Slovak primary and secondary legislation (energy and regulation) is available on www.urso.gov.sk (also in English)
