What is the Spanish Education Fund? • SEF is different from the PTO; both support EHSI • SEF is 100% parent funded; no district or grant money • It is a non-profit 501(c)3 entity; your donation may be tax deductible • Supports the International Intern Program, an educational resource that is part of one of the largest immersion programs in the state • Our Ultimate Goal: $150 per child per year would raise $100K to fully fund the program

What does the SEF do? • Support: EHSI, CMS, EPHS • Place: 14 to 18 interns in classrooms • hopefully more as more kids enter higher grades • Raise: $100,000 every year • Provide Value: $0.87 per school day per child enhances our children’s Spanish immersion experience with interns in the classrooms

6. Can the money given be shared? Families give money to a variety of buckets. Money given to one bucket cannot be shared or moved to another bucket. This is why groups ask individually throughout the year. General Class Gym MediaCenter PTO SEF

7. SEF: HOW we raise money • Parents voted: Annual Contributions are most preferred butonly 27% of Families contributed by September 2015

How to contribute $150/child/year • Make your Annual Contribution, preferably before school starts, by… cash check online • If we cannot reach our goal through parent Annual Contributions, we could be forced to ask parents to participate in door-to-door salesor reduce or eliminate the program all together. 10. Daily Cost per Student • School Goal: a 90/10 Immersion environment • 90% Spanish | 10% English • Interns help our teachers work to achieve this by adding additional adults speaking Spanish, by requiring students to speak to them in Spanish, and encouraging Spanish in daily interactions

Value for 87¢ per day • Native Spanish speaking interns • Provide the immersion experience in classrooms, school hallways, cafeteria, library, buses, etc. • Spontaneous Spanish language experiences • Initiate greater learning in smaller groups within the classroom • Assist teachers with dialect, grammar and alternative instruction • Education with the language’s cultural nuances • Leads to well established language skills & understanding • Learning transfers to multiple applications in conversation

15. Thank you everyone! Let’s do it! Our goal is to have 90% of the SEF annual budget filled by Annual Contributions. Keep in mind – this is what parents have said they want. If the money is not raised by Annual Contributions then more emphasis is place on Cinco to make up the shortfall instead of Cinco being a social event and celebration for parents Let’s fill the bucket!
