  5. Recent Developments: • New CAM for XES Controls Group • Gunther Haller (see talk “XES Controls and DAQ”) • Integration of XES, XTOD, LUSI • Utilizes and optimizes LCLS and SLAC resources • Scope change • Descoped AMO particle imaging experiment and Laser Amplifier • Added full functionality of LCLS laser timing system • Combined XTOD/XES commissioning sections • Headed by Hal Tompkins • Developed a new baseline plan (later in this talk)

  6. XES Status • Most XES sub-systems are past concept design phase: • AMO (PRD 8/07) • PPS stoppers (PRD 7/07) • XES Controls (PRD 8/07) • X-Ray PPS Operational modes CDR 5/31/07 • Some sub-systems are about to start: • (laser, PPS doors) • Others are past half way point: • Cornell 2D Pixel Detector • Coordinating with Radiation Physics PPS and shielding requirements • Coordinating with LUSI, XTOD, Controls and CF • Started Safety Review of experimental areas with SLAC’s SOC

  7. Status: AMO Instrument (NEH, hutch 2)(see talk by John Bozek) • Finalized Physics Requirements (PRD 12/06) • Instrument components are identified (SCR 12/06) • Working towards Preliminary Design Review (8/07) • Coordinating design with (3) LUSI designers • AMO controls requirements defined (CDR 4/07) • AMO control hardware components defined • Starting to prototype • Controls PDR 8/07 • ESDs of components in 8/07 • Design of AMO particle Imaging Instrument through Preliminary Design

  8. Status: 2D Pixel Array Detector Collaboration with • High resistivity Silicon (500 µm) for direct x-ray conversion. • Reverse biased for full depletion. • Bump-bonding connection to CMOS ASIC. • ASIC limit on size, 21 mm2 the Gruner Group

  9. Cornell 2D Detector • Over half way through the project (started 1/05) • LDAC Review #4 for CY06 (Feb. 05-06, 2007) • Good review • Next review in fall 07 (“mid term review”) • Submitted full-lot diode in March • Received and testing 190x190 pixel ASIC in May • Expect full lot prototype in 09/07 • Bump bonding vendor identified • Received and testing full scale high speed read out (FPGA), data transfer and storage • Designs on tiling and packaging are being developed • Slight delays in recent submissions – plan to catch up

  10. XES Controls See talk G. Haller • New XES, XTOD, LUSI Controls organization • CDR 4/07 • AMO experimental controls • AMO control hard ware components defined • Data acquisition and detector controls • SLAC in-house CE module solution • Data storage • SCCS BaBar model

  11. Status Summary Design is progressing well on all subsystems Reorganized Controls group is focusing on particular requirements of experimental groups 2D Detector program at Cornell is on schedule Suffered delays due to CR XES is responding to new LCLS Baseline Plan

  12. XES New Baseline Plan • Phase XES deliverables into: • CD 4a for E-dump, FEE, NEH (7/09) • and CD 4b for Tunnel and FEH (5/10) • Provide a basic AMO instrument for 4a • Add full capability of AMO instrument for 4b • Phase controls capabilities e.g. data storage, processing • Extend all LOE staff through 5/10 • Gradual switch-over to commissioning starting with 4a, completed by 10/09 through 5/10 • Schedule changes and extensions results in 800k increase

  13. XES New Plan • Split Procurements and installation into 4a and 4b dates (Safety Systems, Stoppers, Controls, Network) • Define AMO science for first experiments • Basic AMO instrument for 4a: • Electron and TOF detectors • Sample system • Chambers • Diagnostics • Added AMO components for 4b • Refocusing optics • X-Ray fluorescence spectrometer • Provide XES Laser system for 4a AMO science • Cornell Detector schedule not affected

  14. Schedule Highlights • AMO: • PDR 8/07 • FDR 2/08 • Start 4a procurements 2/08 (4b:2/09) • Receive 6/08 (4b:6/09) • XES Laser ready 11/08 • Installation 4a complete NEH 1/09 • Basic 4a AMO ready for experiments 2/09 • Start commissioning with LCLS beam 7/09 • Full 4b AMO ready 11/09
