This article discusses the importance of earthquake preparedness in schools, particularly in major cities of Bangladesh. It highlights the damage caused by earthquakes in educational institutions and the vulnerability of children. The Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) have implemented initiatives such as seismic hazard mapping, school building assessment, teacher training, dissemination of information, earthquake safety drills, and evacuation planning to enhance school safety. The sustainability of these initiatives is ensured through awareness campaigns, curriculum integration, and institutionalization.
